7 Step Career Model

Landing a job and loving it don’t always come hand in hand. There are often office politics, management issues, and conflicting priorities. Knowing how to navigate some of these complex and challenging situations can make the difference between misery and mastery of a job.

The last two steps of Patti’s Seven Step Career Model are designed to get the most out of any job – which sets you up for a great next job and ultimately, success in your career. This career model was designed to be a tool that you can return to again and again as you advance in your career or change your life goals.

1. Purpose: Optimally match your skills, abilities and talents with career fields and job descriptions that can provide you with a real sense of engagement and happiness in the "doing" of any work.
2. Place: Clarify what is meaningful and satisfying and identify the industries and organizations where you can find that fulfillment.

Land a Job
3. Packaging: Packaging is everything! Present yourself in a compelling and appropriate manner to get the right job.
4. Participation: Build a strategic career action plan with a solid network of contacts and then develop networking skills necessary to access new opportunities.
5. Perception: Be perceived as the top candidate and turn opportunities into interviews and interviews into offers. Negotiate your compensation package to include the right pay and life balance.

Thrive at Work
6. Performance: Master workplace people skills, learn to navigate political situations and enhance your personal success in any corporate culture or work environment.

7. Perspective: Learn how to take a long-term view on your work, personal and financial life while also addressing short term, immediate career and work objective.
